I know the hesitation you feel before clicking ‘Buy,' on an online clothing website.
I feel it too.
The hesitation is stronger when you are unsure of the brand and the quality of their products.
Often – the only reliable source of information about these stores is word of mouth – the shopping experiences of other men.
This applies to custom clothiers and tailors offering high-end craftsmanship at affordable prices across the globe.
There is little margin for error. Especially when you are on a tight travel schedule.
Lucky for you – I have done enough trial and error to give you a list of ten custom clothiers who will deliver good quality – in person or online.
I have purchased suits from Bangkok, Hong Kong, London and Milan. Then I proceeded to tear them apart to study how they were made.

This list is not a ranking!
It is a list of tailors and websites I have tried or have experience with and recommend in no particular order.
The companies at the top of the list will provide great value – provided you know what you want.
The ones at the bottom of the list are relatively expensive. However the price is justified by the superior quality and cut of their clothes.
1. Tailor Store – Sweden
Tailor Store provides affordable and good quality custom clothing made in Sweden. They stock an extensive selection of fabrics for shirts and suiting.
The quality of the garments is not going to be on par with the shops on Savile Row but it is good value for money.
The online process of selecting fabrics and design preferences for a shirt is straight forward. Tailor Store makes thousands of shirts and suits – it won't take long for you to zero in on a style that's right for you.
Price-conscious shoppers looking for a good quality shirt that costs under $100 will enjoy the services offered by Tailor Store. Use code RMRS40 for a 40% discount.

2. Monte Carlo Tailors – Bangkok, Thailand
Bangkok is a bustling metropolitan popular with tourists, diplomats and expatriates. One of the allure for foreigners living and visiting Bangkok is the thriving tailor-made clothes industry. High quality custom made clothing is available at a fraction of the price compared to stores in Europe and North America.
Monte Carlo is a favorite with a growing number of expats. You can visit their store and expect shirts and suits to be ready within a week (just enough time for a quick Thai vacation). Shipping is available and takes about 25 days.
It is advisable to make an appointment before dropping into their store.
Raja – the owner of Monte Carlo Tailors is willing to work with clients via Skype. He is a personal friend and graduate of my Style System Program. For the money – this is a tremendous value.
3. WW Chan & Sons – Hong Kong, China
While the tailors in Bangkok provide better value for money – Hong Kong and Shanghai tailors produce men's clothes made with a higher skill level.
W.W. Chan & Sons has served an exclusive niche of the elegant men of Hong Kong since 1952. The Chan legacy comes from the original Shanghainese schools of traditional tailoring. The tailors imbibed best practices from the European and American tailoring industries.
The clothes are relatively pricey and the brand produces amazing results in their clothes. However, there are occasions when they fail to impress. The caveat here is you need to know exactly what you want.
Don't expect style advice and a personal consultation on what would suit you. You have to visit their store in Hong Kong for a fitting.
4. Mr. Ned – New York City, USA
The original Mr. Ned started his clothing store for men in 1964. The long wait list for a custom suit from their store is a testament to their long standing popularity.
If time is not an issue – then you have to make a trip to New York City to get fitted. The focus is on classic, timeless and no-frills style. Their regular clientele consists of employees at Wall Street .
With over 20 years experience in making custom made clothing – the owner, Vahram Mateosian is well versed in classic and modern styles. He can be reached during normal business hours by phone or in person to provide a customized consultation.
Mr. Ned has a reputation for sticking to classic styles – don’t expect fancy customization.
5. Blank Label – Boston, USA
Blank Label is an amazing company because of the way they take care of their clients. The focus is on people – they care about customer satisfaction and their owner, Fan, is a great guy I have the privilege to call my friend.
You can buy online – but drop into one of their stores if you can (Click here to arrange an appointment and check locations) – for a one-on-one fitting with a menswear specialist who will also offer personalized styling advice.
The clothes come without labels (hence the name Blank Label). Expect your order to take at least two weeks and then shipped to the destination.
They offer a range of full-suiting, chinos, and corduroys.
6. Imperial Tailors – Moscow & Kyiv
A qualified tailor with experience working in menswear in Hong Kong, Africa and Europe – Sammy Kotwani came to Russia in 1990. His customers are Russian ministers, celebrities and business leaders as well as a handful of Presidents of neighbouring countries, including Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Armenia. The salon is located within Moscow’s “golden mile.”
These tailors are at the higher range in price. The tailoring is completed in Shanghai. I tried them when I was getting married and then again at business school. Their suits still fit me.. although they may have shrunk a bit. So I’d like to think 🙂
The quality – as you can expect from someone who dresses Presidents and diplomats – is top notch.
7. Narin Couture – Bangkok, Thailand
Narin Couture is a Thai-Chinese family business run by Mr. B. Narin who graduated from the Chambre Syndicale de la couture parisienne in France – the design school attended by Yves Saint Laurent!
Considered to be one of the best tailors in South East Asia, Narin speaks fluent French and English. He specializes in all three cuts – the European style, English and American.
You have to be clear about your expectations during the first fitting. Wearing your favorite suit or showing them pictures helps the tailors visualize your preferences.
I own quite a few of his shirts and suits. His services are not inexpensive – but you can expect top quality. If you stop by please say hi from me – he is a good friend and amazing person!
8. English Cut – London, England
English Cut was founded in 1995 by Thomas Mahon. The blog on their website gives a glimpse behind the closed doors of Saville Row.
The brand is based in London but a lot of the cutting is done at a workshop in Cumbria. Basing the workshop outside London saves the brand huge overheads – allowing them to sell suits at 20-25% less than the other established brands on Savile Row.
Mr. Mahon travels to New York, Chicago and Dallas but to get an appointment with him requires planning – he is limited for time.
9. Richard Bennett Custom Tailors & Shirtmakers – Chicago, USA
Richard Bennett Custom Tailors is a landmark shop for custom-made business clothing for men in downtown Chicago.
Watching the staff at Richard Bennett helping customers in their store is a delight. Albert Karoll runs a company that delivers top notch customer service and makes shopping for men convenient.
They are on the higher end of price but it goes hand in hand with the quality of service and the craftsmanship. If you’ve been there once – they will remember your name when you walk through their doors the next time.
Their client list includes Tiger Woods and Matt Kuchar.
10. Henry Poole & Co. – London, England
If you want the best in the world and money is not an issue – you must try the established fashion houses for men at Savile Row in London.
Henry Poole is reputed to be one of the founders of Savile row and the creator of the tuxedo. All garments are made on the store premises at 15 Savile Row, London by master craftspeople and each client has their own individual pattern.
The brand has a long and proud history of tailoring – continuing in the great tradition of English Bespoke tailoring.
Hope you enjoyed my list of the top ten tailors for bespoke, custom, and made-to-measure men's clothes. And yes……I know there is a difference!
This is not a comprehensive list (I have others I am evaluating!)- if you have any suggestions of tailors you would recommend – contact me and let me know!
These custom clothiers are not factory fronts making made-to-measure clothing with advanced technology. Instead – they are artisans skilled in the craft of delivering exceptional quality and a wearable work of art.
When they get it right – you will be amazed with the results.
