Today, I'm going to be doing a video book review on “Dressing the Man You Love”.
Okay, so let's get right to the book, “Dressing the Man You Love“, and this is by Betsy Durkin Matthes and it was published in 2006.
It's about 270 pages long and overall, I give it five out of five stars, a great book.
Now, let me start this off by saying I feel it is up to a man to be able to dress himself. He should understand what colors, what patterns, what fabrics, what styles suit his body type.
However, I live in the real world. I know a lot of men, they're just never going to get around to this stuff.
Thank goodness there are some very smart women who realized that their men has a lot of potential and that he just needs a little bit of extra nudging here or there because when it comes down to being married, and I'm a happily married man for almost a decade now, I can tell you that I wouldn't be where I'm at if it wasn't for my wife who handles so many things that I never — yeah, she makes my life a lot easier.
So Betsy has put together a pretty awesome book. Here's the size of it. You can see it. It's not a huge book compared to some of the other Alan Flusser or Bernhard Roetzel books you're going to see out there. However, I would say the information packed in there is solid because she gets over 270 pages.
She goes into a lot of detail and that's probably the number one thing I love about this book, is that it's almost on par with those gentlemen I just mentioned in terms of what she covers and the detail that she goes into.
When I'm going through this, I almost feel like I'm reading Flusser at some point, so this is really solid, but she's a bit more practical and that's another great thing. So if you're also looking for casual but still dressy style tips, this is a great book.
Another thing I love about it is the black and white images, so there's no color with it being a paperback. Everything is in black and white here, so you're not going to find any color images, but the great part is it allows patterns and the simple images to really stand out and they're very crisp, very clear.
The printing came up very well. Obviously, you can't really talk about color in a book like this when you're not showing color in the images, so that's kind of a little bit of a drawback, but it's also a strength.
The one thing that makes this book very unique to me that I haven't seen a lot of other books is that she uses a lot of different worksheets. So these little worksheets, what she's doing is she's giving you an idea of what you need.
Basically, if you're going to go out and you're going to buy something, she's got men's sizes. So right here, she lays out what you should measure when you're going out and buying clothing for your man.
Now, as a man, if I own this book, I could actually photocopy it or something and I would know what measurements I need to carry when I go to buy something so that I don't have to rely on a tailor there or somebody with a tape measure.
In fact, when you go shopping, you should probably take your own tape measure so that you know what your measurements are. You can lay the clothing out, measure it immediately, and make a quick judgment, “Is this sleeve length right for me? Are these cuffs the right size? Am I going to have to have this neck brought in half an inch?” which is very doable.
So for that, again, the negatives, the whole premise which I kind of talked about at the very beginning that a woman is dressing a man and the lack of color, but other than that, this is a great book and a solid deal. So I highly advise you to go pick it up on Amazon.
If you're a woman watching this and you want your man to dress sharp, there's nothing wrong with picking up this book and reading and understanding this information so that you can talk with him and help him see the light so that he'll dress better and you guys will work together better as a couple.
