Leather Honey Leather Conditioner is hands down the best leather conditioner I have ever used.
I've been using it for the last 6 months, and I have been very impressed with it's ability to penetrate and protect leather for a longer period of time than other popular conditioners on the market.
In fact – I find it lasts 4X longer – which is important as it saves you time and hassle as you have to condition less yet you still protect your valuable leather from water damage and deterioration.
Leather Honey first popped on my radar when I was looking to condition my new Saddleback Leather Briefcase (Thanks Brett & Kate for the awesome gift!).
I wasn't happy with my current stash of thin, water based liquid types that seemed to need 3 to 4 applications before I would notice any type of “conditioning” going on (I used to spend hours conditioning all my motorcycle gear and wasn't wanting to repeat that experience!).
I didn't have time for this – especially on a big bag. And I felt these other leather conditioners weren't really protecting my shoes. I had already lost a pair of $300 dress boots to my first Wisconsin winter.
I wanted a leather conditioner that did the job right!
I was aware of thicker, oil based conditioners, but was turned off by the adverse affects they could have such as an oily residue or too much of a color change.
But then I found Leather Honey Leather Conditioner.
About Leather Honey Leather Conditioner
The more I read about Leather Honey Leather Conditioner – the more I liked them.
An American family owned business since 1968 – Leather Honey started off as “Harness Honey” and they have been testing their product regionally on saddles, boots, and working straps for decades. Realizing their natural home-made product was applicable to a wider range of leather items – they re-branded and were looking to expand.
With over 200 positive reviews on Amazon it was easy to see they were a great solution for many. But most the reviews were concerning non-footwear items. So my question – how would it react to high-end dress shoes & boots? Could I use this conditioner on my expensive leather footwear?
I interviewed Shawn McGowen (Click here for our informative podcast on how to condition your leather shoes), the grandson of the formula creator and original founder Daniel McGowen to find out for myself.
He shared with me Leather Honey's story and how it was originally tested on the leather shoes and soles of the local mailman – and the results were fantastic. His shoes lasted for years instead of months (this was a guy walking miles and miles every single day – so this would translate to decades for you – especially if your shoes are of good quality). Shawn shared with me that he had been using it on his dress shoes for years (he still works a day job where dress shoes on a daily basis are required!).
After receiving my sample – I put Leather Honey to the test.
Leather Honey Leather Conditioner was applied to my $350 Lucchese western boots, my leather belts, my leather briefcase, and even my previously damaged leather Chelsea dress boots. And even though it didn't magically repair the cracked leather on my Chelseas – it did soften the leather enough to make them wearable around my small town.
As for everything else – I could see it work overnight (I caked it on and let my boots and leather bags/belts soak it up).
The Result?
Softer, better looking leather footwear and accessories. In fact my Lucchese's look better now than they did brand new. My leather briefcase is softer and more malleable (vs. being stiff for the first 6 months I had it despite repeated conditioning attempts with other leather conditioners). It even restored the life to my old belts!
No oily residue either!
Be aware – Leather Honey can darken light colored leathers – it wasn't really an issue for me as most of my leathers are dark brown. But if you have light brown leather's you'll want to test it in a small area with any leather conditioner you use. Also – you can't use this product on suede.
