There’s one simple tip that will make a woman instantly more interested in you.
It doesn’t involve clothes,
confidence,
fancy cars,
or complicated words.
The simple tip is…
Ask her out in an area that smells good!
That's it.
All it takes is a whiff of a pleasant scent and you'll double your chances of getting a date…..or at least her phone number!
But what are the details?
How did the researchers I cite come to this conclusion?
That's hat we discuss in this article!
A 2012 study conducted in France set out to show that women exposed to a pleasant and ambient fragrance are more receptive to courtship requests from men.
Published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology, the study build on previous research that proved how pleasant fragrances have an uplifting and positive effect on social relationships.
Trust the French to come up with the connection between fragrances and attraction. They’ll use just about any trick to use fragrance as a secret weapon.
The study showed that pleasant scents improve people’s mood.
We are already aware that pleasant fragrances encourage altruistic behavior, but what role do fragrances play in social relationships? Especially courtship – does a good mood equate to increased trust in women who are approached by men for their phone number?
The Experiment – Collecting Phone Numbers From Women In Shopping Malls
A group of undergraduate students walked around in a shopping mall and identified the areas that had the best smell. Coffee shops, pastry shops and bakeries had an especially good aroma.
Other stores had no distinguishing smell – music stores, clothing stores, banks, travel agents, etc.
To conduct the experiment, the researchers first recruited 18 male volunteers who were rated on attractiveness by a group of women.
The top 5 most attractive men were then shortlisted for the experiment.
The researchers selected attractive men because it’s not likely for a woman to accept a date request from a random stranger… unless they were attractive enough for her to consider it.
The young men, who were unaware about the goals of the experiment, were handed a script which they followed verbatim.
They were instructed to approach 18-25 year old women in the mall and ask for their phone numbers using this script – “My name is Antoine, you seem very nice. I wonder, would you would give me your phone number. I could call you later and we could get together for a drink somewhere next week”.
The location for the date request would vary with each participant.
They were then instructed to inform the young ladies that the entire approach was part of an experiment – as soon as they said yes (or no).
The women were then asked to fill out a survey listing the reasons for either accepting or rejecting the attractive man's request.
The Results – Double The Chances Of A Date
A total of 400 women were approached for the purpose of this experiment.
200 were approached in a pleasant-smelling location.
200 were approached in neutral or unpleasant-smelling locations.
The results when the phone number was request in a pleasant-smelling area of the mall… 23% of the women shared their number with the young man.
That's 46 women out of the 200 approached.
In the no-odor location – 13.5% of women shared their number with the young man.
That's 27 out of 200.
Twice as many women said yes in a pleasant-smelling location as those in a neutral-odor location.
The location’s odor mattered!
It's may seem like a small difference – but statistically, the men doubled their chances of getting digits simply by changing the location of the request.
The words they used were all the same. The only difference was the smell of the location. Nothing else mattered – they men were all equally charming, attractive and smooth.
Observations From The Experiment
The surprising factor is that the fragrance wasn’t worn by any of the men. They simply solicited women for their contact details in a good-smelling area of a shopping mall.
The researchers suggest that a man asking a woman out on a date is likely to hear ‘yes' when the woman is in a better mood.
How do you ensure this state of mind for a woman?
Pleasant odors tended to increase pleasant mood. So make your requests in an area with a pleasant and ambient fragrance.
A pleasant cologne worn by a man makes a significant difference to how he is perceived by women. In fact, it could be the number one factor for women to determine if your first date leads to a meaningful and lasting romantic relationship.
The main take-away from this experiment is the importance of where you make a date request over how you ask a woman for her number.
- Requests for dating are influenced by fragrance and location.
- Pay attention to local odors and the way you yourself smell when making requests of women.
Planning to propose?
Ensure you pick a place that has a warm and beautiful smell. You can be more creative than the researchers… pick a spot that has a more pleasant fragrance than a bakery in a shopping mall! For sure, stay away from the fish market.
