I'm going to make an assumption.
You're a guy who is on the road success.
You know what you want and where you're going.
But maybe you're not quite there yet.
You want to project an image of the man you want to be.
But you don't quite have the budget to do it.
Well, good news!
You don't have to.
This article will discuss how you can look like a million bucks with only $100 budget.
Specifically, we're going to focus in on the 5 key areas of the wardrobe for you to pay attention to.
I’m not saying that you want to look great for superficial reasons.

1) Clothing – Nail the fit.
The fit of your clothes will make each piece look like it has been custom made for your body. You want to try a variety of sizes and cuts to find the one that works best for you. This is very important as all size designations are not equal. For example, a modern cut suit might wear differently depending on the brand.
You may be shopping alone, so take pictures and send them to a trusted friend who knows what you’re trying to do. In case you don’t have any buddies that are on the style journey that you have embarked upon, you can use the Real Men Real Style Facebook group – and get the member’s opinion of the fit by posting photos on the platform.
Many of the guys there really know their stuff. When focusing on the fit, you want to include:
- Suit jackets/blazers – sleeve length, shoulders, and chest – Jackets should accentuate your natural curves
- Shirts – neck size, sleeve length, and width in the body – Sleeves should touch the top of your wrist or go to the middle of the face of your watch
- Trousers – Waist, leg length, and hem. Remember, the break of the pants should be minimal
2) Shoes – Buy Bargain And Polish Them
Visit a thrift store. You will be surprised at that pieces that you will find. Many gentlemen will give away high-quality items and you can purchase them at gargantuan bargains.
In fact, one of my staff members recently purchased a very nice pair of Saks Fifth Avenue lamb skin moccasins. You won’t always find high-end gear at a thrift store, but you can still get great pieces for a low price.
So if you go the thrift store route, you are going to have to exercise some patience and take your time to find a gently worn shoe that fits your style. Once you find the pair that you like – take it to a shoe hospital to get the sole repaired or go simple and do a quick spit shine.
I guarantee that using this option to find a shoe will be well worth it. Note: You can go thrift shopping for clothing as well. The trick is to go to a re-sale store in a nice part of town or (if you live in a big city) in the fashion district. Folks who live in those areas often take the items that they don’t want to stores nearby.
3)Â Watches – Wear One
Many guys simply do not see the need for having a timepiece. Until a few years ago, I was in the same boat.
After I retired from the military, it took me some time to get back into wearing them…but they are a must.
Start to wear one – Watches are one of the most functional accessories that are available so there is really no reason to not wear one. There is a level of convenience that wearing a wristwatch provides.
Phones break or you might not be in an environment where it’s appropriate to have your cellular device out – so checking it for the time might not be an option. Additionally, watches signal style and refinement. Visit here for more reasons why a man should wear a wrist watch.
Go with a simple minimalist dress watch design – This design is best when starting out because it works well with all aesthetics and you don’t have to buy different watches for every look.
Also, there are many different styles of timepieces at varying costs so it can get overwhelming. Check out my free Ultimate Guide to Wrist Watches to learn everything you need to know about wearing them
4) Simple Style – Clothes, Patterns, Colors
When trying to look your best, don’t overdo it. Use the K.I.S.S. method – Keep It Simple, Sir!
You want to wear simple clothes. Stick with the classics. They’ve been around for ages for a reason. Trends are ok, but they will become outdated at some point. The classically stylish gentleman will keep on par with what has always been around.
Stay away from over the top colors and designs. There are traditional patterns that you can wear that will provide flare such as:
- Herringbone
- Paisley
- Gingham
- Houndstooth
These are classic in nature; however, you still should be careful because wearing them incorrectly will make you look like you’re trying too hard. You can never go wrong with standard business colors like:
- Blue
- Grey
- Black
- Khaki/tan
- White
There are various shades of each of these colors. It’s not as limited as it might seem. Of course, there are other options, but you can’t go wrong with the basics.
5)Â Grooming – Pay Attention To It
To look like a million bucks the details must be taken care of – thus grooming is essential. Everyone’s hair grows at different rates, but getting a haircut every 1-2 weeks is a rule that hast to be followed. Find a barber that you trust and budget the cost so that you can stay on top of your style.
It’s critical that you wash and condition your curls frequently as well. Healthy and manageable hair that’s in a great style will make your confidence skyrocket. Do your research and talk to your stylist about the best products to use or download my free Man’s Guide to Hair eBook.
Taking care of your hands shows a deep commitment to refinement and style. Many men have an aversion to getting a manicure as they may see it as feminine.
I challenge you to treat yourself just once to see if you like it. If you are dead set against getting a manicure, at least make sure that your fingernails are consistently cut and clean. Dirty nails can be seen as a hygiene problem.
Bonus Tip: Practice Wearing New Styles
You’re here because the nuances of style are unfamiliar to you…and that’s ok. Now that you have read my e-books/articles and watched the videos, you are aware. It’s important that you practice these tips consistently. Repetition is how you will become comfortable with things like:
- Wearing a different cut suit or shirt
- Going thrift shopping for shoes and cleaning/polishing them yourself
- Getting a wrist watch and sporting it with confidence
It will change your perception of normalcy and being the best-dressed man in the room will become the standard expectation. Don’t be afraid to commit. Remember, it’s about being self-assured and that assertion is directly connected to your appearance.
